Sitting just north of the Seattle City Limits, Shoreline is best known for its excellent school district and relatively affordable housing.

Characterized by large lots and towering trees, this suburb of Seattle was recently incorporated into its own independent city in 1995 and is just beginning to develop its own personality. With more than 50,000 residents, there are several great parks including Hamlin and Shoreview Park that are great for an in-city hike through old-growth forest. And if you like a sandy beach, Richmond Beach Park has great views.

Commercial areas are predominantly strip-malls, but do contain useful goods and services like Costco, Home Depot and all major grocery stores. But by far the best grocery store is the Central Market at 155th and Westminster Way N. It has an outstanding Seafood department (I can't even identify most of the fish in there) and the bakery makes vegan cakes as well as standard.

The inter-urban trail now goes all the way through Shoreline and makes for a great way to get around without having to walk or bike in traffic.

Housing is predominantly post-1950 construction. Lots of split-level homes and many two-car garages. Lots are fairly large and towering evergreens dominate the landscaping. Very few sidewalks currently, but the city expands the sidewalks a little bit more every year.
